continuing work after the fire

Please donate to help restore the family house!

In May 2023, a tragic event struck “Rožkalni” — the family home (“Zenta Mauriņa house”), one of the central buildings in the village, was destroyed by fire. Fortunately, no villagers or co-workers were harmed, but 13 people lost everything they owned.
To ensure the story of “Rožkalni” continues, we sincerely invite you to donate and support the rebuilding of the family house! For the village community, this is more than just a construction project — it’s a chance to restore hope, to recreate a space for living and working together. Every donor becomes part of this renewal. It’s a chance to do something truly meaningful and important.
DONATIONS can be made through a bank transfer: Camphill Nodibinājums “Rožkalni,” registration number 40008047404, Luminor Bank, account number/IBAN: LV40 RIKO 0002010092555. Alternatively, you can donate using a PayPal account (account name: Camphill nodibinajums Rozkalni)

Thank you to everyone who has supported us and continues to do so! For our community, it is an invaluable source of strength and inspiration that motivates us to keep going

INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT / 2025

Outdoor Pavilion // An open space for Togetherness

Something truly special has come to life in the Camphill village “Rožkalni” – an outdoor pavilion that has become the heart of the community. This pavilion was lovingly and selflessly built by the dedicated family of Vija and Oskars Cīrulis at their woodworking farm “Skaidlauzis” in Zilaiskalns. They were the ones who helped us see clearly, feel the direction, and build a bridge between need and solution.
It all began with a conversation. Our dear friend and supporter Zeltīte Kaviere reached out to Vija and shared about the “Rožkalni” villagers, the need for a place to gather – to work together, hold seminars, enjoy tea breaks, and simply be together. Words became inspiration, and inspiration turned into action.
The materials needed for the pavilion were generously donated by SIA “Bitus”, showing that businesses, too, can be a vital part of the community spirit.
And now it stands – by the garden, between the two village’s family houses, right in the middle – an open space for everyone. Already this summer, peas and beans will be shelled here, dried herbs will fill the air with their scent, and Zeltīte Kaviere’s seminars on nature plants will take place here.
This pavilion in “Rožkalni” is more than just an object of infrastructure. It is a place of gratitude and togetherness, a reminder of kindness, generosity, and dreams fulfilled.

Participation in the gardening project / 2024

Boris and Inara Teterev Foundation program “Do it yourself for YOUR FAMILY TABLE” //

In 2024, the Camphill “Rožkalni” was approved to participate in the Boris and Inara Teterev Foundation’s gardening project program “Do it yourself for YOUR FAMILY TABLE”! As support, the project participants received seeds, seedlings, and gardening tools for planting in their own gardens. Additionally, participants had the opportunity to receive advice from specialists and gardening enthusiasts to help them grow a bountiful harvest.

implemented infrastructure project after the fire damage / 2023

The new residential house // Lilijas house

On May 27, 2023, a random spark accidentally landed on the straw roof, causing the village’s large residential house (“Zenta Mauriņa house”) to be engulfed in flames. It was one of the first straw houses in Latvia. Fortunately, none of the villagers and coworkers were harmed in the fire. Although this unfortunate incident left a deep emotional impact on the entire community’s daily life, the story of Rožkalni had to continue.

Thanks to donors, volunteers, and the strong support of the Camphill movement, the foundations for a new residential house were laid during the summer of 2023. The grand opening of “Lilijas house” took place on September 30, 2023.

Centralised heating system //

In November 2024, after the fire disaster, a new centralised heating system was installed to heat the village. To establish the system, pipes were laid to distribute hot water to all the buildings in the village. The wood-burning stove is fueled with forest firewood provided by the village.

Roof replacement //

In October 2024, construction work to replace the wooden shingle roof with a metal one at Rožkalni house was completed. These renovations were necessary because the previous roof structure had been partially damaged during the fire.
